Courtney Lee Schamel is a native of Traverse City, Michigan. She graduated from Northwestern Michigan College with an Associate of Applied Science in Law Enforcement. Upon graduation she was employed by the Leelanau County Sheriff's Department as a Sheriff's Deputy. Courtney later went on to attend the University of Oklahoma where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Criminology/Sociology. After graduating from the University of Oklahoma, Courtney went to work for the State of Oklahoma's Office of Juvenile Affairs in Norman, Oklahoma. Part of working at the Office of Juvenile Affairs meant spending time in the courtroom advocating on behalf of the juveniles on her caseload, in turn igniting her passion for the area of law and trial advocacy. Courtney left the Office of Juvenile Affairs to attend law school at Oklahoma City University School of Law where she graduated with a Juris Doctorate.
While in law school Courtney competed in the American College of Trial Lawyers' National Trial Competition and was a member of various organizations. She also served as Vice President of the Student Bar Association and had the opportunity to intern at the United States Attorney's Office - Western District of Oklahoma and Oklahoma County District Attorney's Office, where she assisted with felony domestic violence cases.
Upon being admitted as a member of the Oklahoma Bar, Courtney worked in private practice until opening a law firm of her own. Since being admitted, Courtney has continued her training by attending the Trial Advocacy Institute. She is a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association Family Law Section and Ruth Bader Ginsburg Inn of Court.
Courtney is also a reservist in the United States Army; Courtney is a Captain in the Judge Advocate General's Corp where she has been serving since 2017.
When not practicing law, you'll find Courtney spending time with her children, Adyson, Declan, and Anneliese; her husband, and dogs, Tucker and Biscuit. She also enjoys traveling, hiking, scuba diving, and watching college football!
When you hire the firm, you get all of us. You may consult with one or all of us, but we work together in preparing pleadings and handling court appearances, focusing on the strengths that each of us possess to most benefit your case.
Taylor is an accomplished and dedicated attorney with our firm, bringing a passion for justice and a wealth of experience to every case she handles. Focusing in family law, Taylor is committed to guiding our clients through challenging legal matters with empathy, professionalism, and a steadfast determination to protect their interests.
Prior to joining the firm, Taylor was a staff attorney for Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma practicing exclusively family law and represented survivors of domestic violence. Receiving her Juris Doctor from the University of Oklahoma College of Law in May 2019, Taylor was listed on the Dean’s Honor Roll and externed with the school’s legal clinic in both the criminal and civil department. Taylor also interned with the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office and several private firms specializing in personal injury and criminal defense.
Prior to law school, Taylor completed her undergraduate education at the University of Oklahoma where she graduated with a degree in Sociology – Criminology. In her free time, Taylor enjoys traveling, training for her next marathon, spending time with her husband and dog, Eva, and watching OU and Buffalo Bills football.
Prior to joining the firm Alex served six years with the Oklahoma Army National Guard where she obtained the rank of Sergeant. She deployed during Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom 08’-09’. She is extremely proud to be a veteran.
After serving her country Alex began serving the citizens of Cleveland County in 2011 as a Detention Officer then was quickly promoted to Deputy Sheriff in the patrol division. She takes great pride in the work she did to help bridge the gap between law enforcement and the communities in which she served. During her time as a Deputy she received several awards including the prestigious Norman NEXT Under 40 Award in 2019.
Alex felt that she was being called to serve people in a greater capacity and in January 2018 she began attending the University of Oklahoma. She graduated in 2019 with a Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice.
She left law enforcement in 2019 and began pursing her passion for changing our criminal justice system. Her future goals are to attend law school and one day become a judge. She has been at the firm since September 2020 and has been Courtney’s “right hand woman.” She is dedicated to ensure that our clients feel safe, heard and understand the process every step of the way. You will also catch her and Lindsay singing, laughing and fighting like sisters.
When Alex is not at the office then you can find her spending time with her family and their dogs (that she is obsessed with). She loves her Jeep, the mountains, all things the sky, traveling, sprinkled donuts, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, music, poetry and tattoos (check out that incredible sleeve).
Prior to joining the firm, Lindsay worked in the medical field for 15 years, 10 of those years as a Respiratory Therapist. After working in New York and Texas for COVID she soon realized she was burnt out and ready for a “normal” life schedule and to spend more time focusing on her family. Unfortunately, after a good run with the Firm, Lindsay made the impossible decision to return to the medical field, in a position that allows her to be home more. We look forward to having her volunteer with the Firm when her busy schedule allows.
Lindsay has been with her husband since they were 18 and they've been married 8 years. They have a beautiful red-headed 5 year old that keeps them going with all her dancing and singing. Lindsay also has a side spray tanning business, Savvy Sunless Professional Airbrush Tanning, that she considers her "soul feeding job". Lindsay loves making people feel beautiful for ANY occasion, and is good at it. If you mention our firm when you book, she'll give you 10% off. 😊
Lindsay enjoys being outside, traveling with her husband and daughter, trying new restaurants, NFL Cincinnati Bengals football, cooking and hanging with her best friends and family.
We will miss her staple email signature, "always be thankful, always be grateful and always be blessed!" (but we will not miss her forgetting to attach documents to emails).
